Helen Hallows. Patterns From Nature Friday 12th October
Helen Hallows is a creator, artist, tutor and mentor working and living in the Midlands. I recently spent the most beautiful day sketching the Derbyshire landscape with Helen and was able to peak a look at the wonderful way in which she uses mark making in her work, and knew I needed Helen to share this with you.
Helens mixed media work is based around memories and landscapes. “Some were family memories, some were places I had been. The landscapes I create resonate with people. They are naive and colourful. They tell stories of journeys we have made and those we are yet to embark on. They are about peace and joy, about kinship and soulful meditation; images to uplift and inspire. I hope to connect others to the simple pleasures of their daily life”
The day is about finding new ways to process ideas and experiment with mark and pattern making. There will be demonstrations in basic print techniques, inspired by mono-printing, lino cutting and stamp making. Working from your own inspiration, Helen will show you how she develops her designs from ideas, through mark making into art work. You’ll finish the day with a range of samples featuring a mix of techniques. You can work on paper or fabric, adding hand stitch to embellish your printed samples if you wish. The day would suit mixed media artists as well as textile makers looking for fresh development ideas, or anyone who enjoys using texture and mark in their creative work. £75 inc buffet lunch 10-4pm
